Singer Jewel wrote a letter to former Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh three months before his death expressing concerns about his drug use, according to a report.

In August, Jewel visited her longtime friend in Park City, Utah, but suddenly interrupted her trip after only a day and sent her the letter a few days later, Forbes reported on Friday.

“I’ll be blunt,” Jewel wrote in the letter obtained by the magazine. “I need to tell you that I don’t think you’re okay and on your mind. I think you take too many drugs that cause you to dissociate yourself.

“The people you surround yourself with are either ignorant or willing to be complicit in your suicide,” the Grammy-nominated singer continued.

Jewel’s main concern was that Hsieh was remembered for using drugs instead of his technological achievements.

“If the world could see how you live, they wouldn’t see you as a tech visionary, they would see you as an addict that’s a cliché,” she wrote. “This is not how you should come down or be known.”

Hsieh died Nov. 27 from smoke inhalation after being pulled from a fire at a house in Connecticut a week earlier. He was 46 years old.
