Jordan Vogt-Roberts, director of long-in-development Metal Gear Solid movie, confirms reports that Oscar Isaac will play Solid Snake. Vogt-Roberts is a superfan of the classic video game series created by Hideo Kojima and has been developing a film adaptation for several years. Derek Connolly wrote the screenplay, but there was little news on the adaptation in recent months. Everything changed when a report came out saying Star Wars, Dune, and Ex Machina The star Isaac had been chosen to play Solid Snake, the protagonist of the series.
Vogt-Roberts bursts onto the scene with his feature debut, the Kings of summer, a coming-of-age tale that debuted at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to become one of the highest-rated films of the year. Its first big budget feature was Kong: Skull Island with Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston. This film did a good job at the box office, but Vogt-Roberts hasn’t added any feature film credits to its name since. Instead, he focused on getting his Metal Gear Solid adaptation from the field, sharing a host of concept art on Twitter earlier this year. Casting timeliness is the first sign of progress, teasing that the project is far enough along to set a filming date.

Now Vogt-Roberts Isaac’s casting reports confirmed, sharing a picture of him and the actor sitting together. The accompanying caption confirms the cast, using a snake emoji to dispel any confusion. The photo shows the couple sitting in what looks like a hotel room, hopefully reviewing the script for the upcoming shoot. You can see the picture below:
Confirmation from the director himself proves that the casting for Isaac is over. All that needs to be sorted out now is a shoot date. This is something that could be tricky given that the star is about to appear in Moon knight next year, which will likely make it unavailable for several months. Of course, Metal Gear Solid may well plan to shoot before the Marvel Cinematic Universe TV show, a possibility given that Vogt-Roberts spent so long preparing it.
Whether the long-awaited film finally gets the cameras rolling sooner or later, at least fans know who their Solid Snake will be. With this casting news, there should be a swift movement to cast other roles, which give clues as to which direction the film’s plot will take, and which of the many. Metal Gear Solid games it will adapt.
