A lucky few got their first glimpse of Patty Jenkins’ upcoming DC tentpole.
A lucky few got their first glimpse of Patty Jenkins’ upcoming sequel “Wonder Woman 1984,” which Warner Bros. publishes day in and day out on HBO Max and in all theaters possible. Early reactions to the film, with Gal Gadot reprising her role as Diana Prince, qualify this latest DC tentpole as a cheerful and ambitious sequel with a retro ’80s vibe that fans should love. Check out the tweets about the film below.
Gadot is joined by the first film’s co-stars including Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen and Robin Wright, as well as a pair of new villains in the form of franchise newcomers Kristen Wiig as Cheetah and Pedro Pascal in the role of Max Lord.
While the DC Extended Universe entry brings back many of the elements that made Jenkins’ original ‘Wonder Woman’ such a hit in 2017 – with Jenkins behind the camera and Gadot, Pine, and Wright in front – the filmmakers have said that this is not a traditional sequel, but just another “chapter” in the evolving story of Wonder Woman.
The first reactions to “Wonder Woman 1984” follow just days after the Warner Bros. studio. announced it will release its entire 2021 slate direct to HBO Max (along with available theaters) in a move that shocked the industry on Thursday.
I am so happy to report that # WW84 is an absolute blast from start to finish. An exceptional compliment to the first film, it is packed with heart, hope, love, action, romance and humor. @PattyJenks, @GalGadot & the team delivered one of the best suites in DC. I was in tears when it ended. pic.twitter.com/ivPkBFmehd

I can’t say much about the plot because of the spoilers, but it’s super smart. The opening sequence alone is breathtaking and each action scene is different and unique. I also think this is one of Hans Zimmer’s high scores … and, for those wondering, the Gadot / Pine chemistry is, once again, ? pic.twitter.com/VfgtXTDHJF

Add to that a terrific ensemble cast; Pedro Pascal and Kristen Wiig were complex and unexpected enemies. I also had the chance to watch # WW84 safely on the big screen, and that was just it. I didn’t expect the experience to make me so emotional, but it is. I miss it so much. pic.twitter.com/mVq5zRadhX

Wonder Woman 1984 is a joyful, thrilling, and engaging sequel that manages to connect with what worked the first time around, but it’s still its own thing. Emotional, hilarious and exciting, maybe even better than the first one. @WonderWomanFilm pic.twitter.com/dvsu6fpJRX

Yesterday I saw Wonder Woman 1984 at home and it was all I needed and more. The film is extremely ambitious, incredibly exciting, and full of well-deserved hope. It’s also really long, sometimes wrongly, but mostly it reminded me how wonderful a big blockbuster can make you feel. pic.twitter.com/6rYbHEzI7E

I saw Wonder Woman 1984 yesterday and… honestly, that’s exactly what I needed. What we all need. It’s uplifting, hopeful, and so Wonder Woman. Just a beautiful film with themes that strike you right in the heart. # WW84

I saw # WonderWoman1984!@PattyJenks literally made an 80s movie all over the place, which makes it so unique for today. It looks both bigger than WWI while being more contained.
Lots of Diana Prince and epic Wonder Woman moments like @GalGadot literally flies away! pic.twitter.com/QluelKwYly

I was lucky enough to be one of the first to (finally!) Get to the Wonder Woman 1984 screening. I loved it. The first Wonder Woman is my favorite of modern DC movies, and # WW84 takes all the smart next steps, telling a very human and beautiful story for Diana Prince. pic.twitter.com/vzr2mZXIKg
