Michael Rapaport’s rabid flea markets may stay open in Los Angeles

Michael rapaport expresses the same frustration and confusion many Angelenos feel after eating al frescoes … this time pointing to a very open flea market in town that is buzzing with business while restaurants suffer.

The actor and sports enthusiast posted a video on Sunday showing him cruising around Los Angeles next to the Melrose Trading Post … a flea market off Melrose Ave. and Fairfax. As you can see – and as Mike strongly points out – it’s open and full of customers.

In Rapaport’s eyes, the fact that operations like this can stay open while alfresco dining is closed again just doesn’t make sense – and he’s launching a crass tirade against the mayor. Eric Garcetti and governor Gavin Newsom for calling the shot.

He doesn’t quite say it, but MR seems to suggest that the decision to close the dining hall – which is also outside and requires a mask to be worn – while leaving flea markets and farmers’ markets like this continuing is … arbitrary. And, if not that, just not properly explained by government officials in regards to the rationale – which many people have said.

Of course, this reminds us of what a restaurateur in the Los Angeles area alluded to recently – comparing its alfresco dining setup to a movie set that also had tents and tables set up right next to it. In this case, the differences in safety were much clearer – movie sets have to function like de facto bubbles with regular testing – unlike restaurants.

In the case of the flea market / farmer’s market … the differences are a bit more difficult to spot and justify. Unlike a movie or production set, there is no mandatory regular testing of subjects looking to participate in an outdoor market like this – foreigners can just walk in, without having to prove anything. whatever, so in that regard … it’s similar to the outdoor dining scenario.

The only thing we can think of that differentiates the farmers / flea markets is that they are theoretically supposed to be operating at limited capacity and the wearing of the mask is mandatory everywhere … whereas in a restaurant the masks come off a once you are seated. at your table.
