Best Buy has joined the list of retailers offering returns for copies of Cyberpunk 2077, the company announcing (in a message on the forum) that it will accept returns until December 21.
This move is unusual for Best Buy, which generally excludes open-ended video games from its usual return policy – in most cases, “open physical copies of computer software, movies, music, video games, books, etc. video game guides and sheet music can only be exchanged for the same item. “
However, in light of developer CD Projekt Red’s acknowledgment of the issues with the game – and its offer to refund until December 21 – Best Buy will provide a similar opportunity for disappointed buyers to return their copies.
According to the forum post:
Normally, Best Buy is unable to offer open gaming software returns as per our return and exchange promise here. However, after some deliberation, and seeing that the supplier will allow returns until 12/21/2020, Best Buy will also allow returns of certain Cyberpunk 2077 SKUs open until December 21, 2020. Beyond that date, we will revert to our normal Return and Trade Promise for the game
There are a few things that Best Buy customers should keep in mind. First of all, Best Buy only accepts returns for Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and Xbox One (including the regular, collective and digital editions of the game) – disappointed PC gamers, however, will not be able to get a refund. Additionally, the company notes that customers who choose to take advantage of Best Buy’s free SteelBook cases for the game will also have to return them, otherwise the value of the SteelBook will be deducted from their refund.
Best Buy is the latest retailer to allow refunds for the game following widespread issues with the title on the original PS4 and Xbox One. Since the announcement of CD Projekt Red, Sony has offered players a full refund, while taking the unprecedented step of withdrawing the title for purchase entirely from PlayStation Store. Microsoft also announced that it will offer a full refund for the game, although it will continue to sell it for now.
CD Projekt Red is already working on fixes to improve performance, with a fix expected in the next few days, while larger updates are planned for January and February to help fix “most important issues” on hardware Xbox One and original PS4.
