Seattle Seahawks vs Washington: Dwayne Haskins to start with Alex Smith out

Alex Smith’s Comeback Player of the Year campaign will not feature a start against former NFC rival West Seattle Seahawks.

Washington ruled Smith out for Sunday against the Seahawks on Friday with a calf injury sustained in Week 14. In Smith’s place, second Dwayne Haskins will have another chance to start.

(You may also notice that former Seattle draft pick Kevin Pierre-Louis was ruled out, denying the linebacker a revenge game.)

Smith left his side’s victory over the 49ers last Sunday after throwing an interception and did not return, replaced by Haskins to close the first half. Haskins went on to claim Washington’s fourth straight victory, going 7 for 12 for 51 yards.

Haskins started Washington’s first four games of the 2020 season, going 1 to 3 while throwing four touchdowns to three interceptions. Since Smith came under cross, the offense as a whole has worked a lot easier. However, with Haskins returning to center, aspiring superstar Terry McLaurin becomes a much bigger explosive playing threat, with Haskins more able to push the ball down.

The Seahawks will need to be prepared for Haskins, McLaurin and others when they travel to DC on Sunday.
