Almost 30 years after the festive comedy hit theaters, Brenda Fricker opened up about how tough the holiday season can be for her in a rare interview with the “The Ray D’Arcy Show” podcast.

“I’m 75 now and I would be lying if I said it would be a nice, merry Christmas because I’m old and living alone,” confessed the Oscar winner. “It can be very dark.”
“I just turned off the phone and closed the blinds,” she continued. “I pre-record some great shows, and I have my dog and I manage that way. I don’t want to sound a little negative but it’s a different kind of Christmas, that’s all.”
The Irish comedian went on to say that New Years Eve is “very difficult” because she has “no one to turn to for a kiss or a smile” when her town’s church clock strikes at midnight. .
“I can’t get away from the bells,” she explained.

After the podcast host claimed that the actress spending the holidays alone was “ironic” about her homeless character in the movie, Brenda replied, “Well, the loft was very lonely.”
As for any recent communication between Brenda and film star Macaulay Culkin, she said, “I’m worried about him but I’m not in touch with him.”
The Pigeon Lady character made headlines recently after Kristen Wiig played a murderous version of her on “Saturday Night Live” and social media followers claimed Piers Morgan bears an eerie resemblance to the recluse resident of Central Park.
Brenda, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1989 for “My Left Foot,” retired in 2014.
