Former Michigan stars, a WNBA champion and three-fifths of the 2004 Detroit Pistons title team are among the eligible nominees for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2021.
Players and coaches with ties to Michigan are scattered across the official list for basketball’s highest honor posted this week on ESPN’s “The Jump”.
Following the traditional Hall of Fame timeline, the finalists for the North American and Women’s Committee will be announced during the NBA All-Star Weekend in early March.
The entire 2021 class, including those selected by direct election committees, will be unveiled during the NCAA Final Four scheduled for early April.
The Class of 2021 enrollment ceremony is scheduled to take place in Springfield, Massachusetts in September 2021.
Some applicants with Michigan ties include:
- Chauncey Billups (Mr. Big Shot) – Former Detroit Pistons MP, 2004 NBA Champion, 2004 NBA Finals MVP, 5-time All-Star
- Swin Cash – Former Detroit Shock forward, three-time WNBA champion, 4-time WNBA All-Star
- Steve fisher – Former Michigan coach, 1989 NCAA Champion, 495 career wins
- Richard “Rip” Hamilton – Former Detroit Pistons SG, 2004 NBA Champion, 3 times NBA All-Star
- Tim hardaway – Former Detroit Pistons assistant coach, 5-time NBA All-Star
- Ben Wallace – Former Detroit Pistons center, 2004 NBA Champion, 4 times NBA Defensive Player of the Year, 4 times NBA All-Star
- Chris Webber – Originally from Detroit, former great basketball player from Michigan, First All-American Team, 5-time NBA All-Star
