In a normal college football season with a normal bowling game situation, Bucknuts would have an army of media members at the scene in New Orleans ready to cover the Sugar Bowl. That would mean face-to-face interviews (a concept that seems almost foreign at this point in 2020) and a media day that would have made every member of the State of Ohio and Clemson available for interviews.
Media coverage of Bowl Week also includes the chance to watch some of the two teams practice. While it’s usually only about 15 minutes or so, and it’s usually a lot of stretching and warm-ups, it’s something and more than what we get during the regular season. That won’t happen this year, but thanks to our friends at Sugar Bowl, we get a little sneak peek into how the Buckeyes play this week.
Media received a video of the Buckeyes’ practice on Wednesday. Although it’s only 2:54 a.m. and there are more guys prepping to train than training, we’ll take what we can get. And in 2020, when the major concern is COVID-19 and it may or may not have tested positive for the virus and therefore not be available for gaming, 2:54 is more than enough for those watching it closely.
That’s exactly what I did (with help from Dave Biddle), going through this video (sometimes frame by frame) to see which players Scarlet and Gray were on the pitch. Since this is something readers are eager to know, we’ve provided the full video below, along with the list of players and coaches we’ve seen and some sightings.
Players in training:
It’s important to note that this short video can’t show us all of the players, so just because someone isn’t listed doesn’t mean they weren’t on the training ground.

Quick thoughts
- Although it’s been a crazy year, it’s time to stop reading every little Instagram post. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you’re fine.
- Strategist Justin fields has a splint on his right thumb after injuring him in the Big Ten Championship Game. Although this was only a short clip from Fields, he didn’t seem to wince at all while holding the ball and had no apparent issues.
- After leaving the Big Ten Championship game with an injury, running back Master Teague is in practice. He lined up with Fields during the stretches which sometimes means he’s No.1 from the back but also sometimes doesn’t mean anything.
