Voice actor Tom Kane, known for his work on various entries in the “Star Wars” franchise, suffered a stroke two months ago that left him largely unable to speak, according to a Facebook post from his daughter.
“He had a left-sided stroke which left him with weakness on his right side and damage to the speech center of his brain,” read his Facebook page on Wednesday. “This means that at the moment, he cannot communicate effectively verbally, nor read or spell. He’s still knowledgeable and very himself, but he can only get out a few words at the moment.
This stroke currently rendered Kane unable to do his voice job. During his career, Kane has lent his voice to “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”, delivering lines for many characters including Yoda, as well as the hit film “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”, where he voiced Admiral Ackbar.
The voice artist has also worked on Cartoon Network’s “The Powerpuff Girls”, FX’s “Archer” and numerous video games, such as the “Call of Duty” franchise and several Star Wars and Marvel games.
“As many of you may know about stroke, it is possible for him to regain these functions and we have found him excellent care in Kansas City for speech, occupational therapy and physiotherapy,” but so far we have been notified by his neurologist. that he can no longer remake voiceovers, ”we read in the message.
But Kane has made strides in bringing his speech back, through therapy and “extreme stubbornness,” the post adds. He can now speak a few words at a time and is in an optimistic mood.
