About 40 people damaged businesses and property in downtown Portland, Oregon on Wednesday night, police said.
The group gathered in the city director’s park before marching through the city center around 7 p.m., police said in a press release Thursday. As they walked, members of the crowd smashed windows, fired paintballs and spray painted several buildings, including City Hall and the Portland Police Office headquarters.
Other damaged properties included the Oregon Historical Society, the University Club, the First Republican Bank, a Starbucks and several restaurants.

Police said officers attempted to contact someone leading the march, but their vehicle was also spray painted.
No arrests were made. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the vandalism to contact police at [email protected].
Portland came into the limelight over the summer after protests erupted in response to the death of George Floyd in custody on May 25 in Minneapolis. For more than 100 consecutive nights, the city was marred by violence. The protests peaked in late July when President Trump deployed federal law enforcement agents to stop attacks on a federal courthouse and other U.S. property.

Portland, and other major metropolitan areas in the United States, has seen a significant increase in crime this year, according to recent statistics. At least 850 shootings have been reported since the start of the year on December 24, an increase of 116% from the 393 incidents recorded year-over-year. In addition, there has been a 93% increase in shootings. This year, 228 were shot and 118 were shot last year.
