The 21 most anticipated indie games of 2021

[ad_1]

There were a lot of weird and wonderful indie games to look forward to in 2020, and I’m happy to report that there are plenty more to watch out for in 2021.

Looking through these next games was thrilling. There are so many interesting, weird, and beautiful games to look forward to in the New Year. All of the games on this list are slated for release in 2021, each one equally ambitious in reaching their goal. We’ve got some noir-style crime thrillers, a little teenage angst, and some hand-drawn delicacies.

Of course, not all of the incredible indies will be released in 2021 – there are just too many to list. We’ll continue our coverage of indie games to play in 2021, and I’d like you to share the games you’ve been looking forward to in the comments below.

Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance

From developer Rocket Adrift, Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance is about a shy, goofy teenager looking for love in the 1990s. It’s a dating simulator and visual novel, where players – as the main character Stella – befriend a band of cryptid teens: a fairy, a talking velociraptor and a bigfoot. It’s described as a ’90s teen drama, and it sounds like it; it has everything from dramatic phone calls, makeup sessions and tapes. The artistic style is also amazing.

Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance arrives in early 2021.

Saturnalia

Saturnalia is an elegant survival horror game that will arrive on the Epic Games Store in 2021. The game is set in Sardinia, Italy, in 1989, in an old village with a spooky ritual – and people disappear every year. What stands out most is Saturnaliathe artistic style of. I haven’t seen anything like it!

Saturnalia is coming to the Epic Games Store in 2021.

She Dreams Somewhere else

She dreams elsewhere, as you may have guessed, takes place in a dream. Described as an adventure role-playing game, the indie game has a surreal vibe – the perfect setting for a bad dream. The music, composed by Mimi Page, is perfect.

She dreams elsewhere is coming to Mac, Nintendo Switch, Windows PC, and Xbox consoles in 2021.

Farewell Volcano High

Canadian developer KO_OP is working on Goodbye volcano Hight, a storytelling game about a group of high school dinosaurs as they learn about life upon graduation. It is described as a cinematic game “about the end of an era and the beginning of a love story”.

Farewell Volcano High coming to Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 in 2021.

Season

Season, from developer Scavengers Studio, was recently announced at the Game Awards 2020, and it was one of the most notable games of the event. The game looks like a wonderful atmosphere, featuring a woman collecting memories of a beautiful and mysterious world.

Season arrives in 2021.

Nuts

Nuts is a game about watching squirrels. He has a very distinct art style – he looks amazing. By looking at these squirrels, the player will “discover the secret hidden by curious creatures”. Personally, I am very excited.

Nuts will be released in 2021 on Windows PC.

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion

It’s all in the name – Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion. There are puzzles, crops, battles, but above all no taxes. “Demolish a corrupt plant government,” according to the Steam page. Who doesn’t like it?

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion in 2021, on Nintendo Switch and Windows PC.

Chinatown Detective Agency

Of course, we have a huge cyberpunk video game at the end of 2020. But there’s more to the genre, and you can see it in Chinatown Detective Agency. It takes place in 2032 in an elegant and futuristic Singapore. Created by Singapore-based developer General Interactive Co., it looks to be an interesting future.

Like the others on this list, it’s coming in 2021.

Venba

From the developer Visai Games, Venba is described as a “narrative cooking game” set in the 1980s in Canada. It centers around an Indian mother, with players tasked with cooking and remembering lost recipes. It’s a story about “family, love, loss and more,” the developer wrote on Steam. It looks amazing.

It will be released in November 2021.

SkateBird

Tony hawk Professional skater 1 + 2 held me back for a while, but the skate game really I am eager to SkateBird, from developer Glass Bottom Games. Birds on skateboards! Birds! Sure! Skateboards!

You may now wish the game on Steam, but it’s also coming to Nintendo Switch and other consoles.

30XX

The colorful world of 30XXseems fast and intense, and it has a fantastic soundtrack. It looks a lot like Mega Man X, but according to the developer, it has the “replayability of a modern Roguelike”. Cooperation is also available. If you liked 20XX, you will also like this game.

You can add it to your wishlist on Steam.

Mundaun

I was impressed with Mundaun visuals since its announcement. The game is drawn in pencil, telling a horror story “set in a dark and isolated valley in the Alps”. The aesthetics are certainly enough to draw people in, but the story and gameplay make it a game to watch.

From the developer Hidden Fields, Mundaun is available on Steam Wish List.

THE YEAR: change

Another cyberpunk style game, THE YEAR: change comes from developer ThinkingStars and publisher Lightning Games. It has a really cool styling style – a mix of 2D and 3D graphics.

Wish list THE YEAR: change on Steam.

Chaotic era

From the developer BOBBY, Chaotic era looks super stylish – a real time black and white interstellar strategy game. “Take on the role of a hyper-advanced AI system designed by one of humanity’s largest (and now extinct) megacorporations,” the developer said. “Land Earth’s last escape ship on a new world and rebuild human civilization from scratch.”

Hot pot for one

When it is safe to do so, the first restaurant I will visit in my local hot pot. Instead, I eat a hot pot with my partner at home and can’t wait to check out the virtual version when Hot pot for one comes out next year.

It is coming to Windows PC.

Spine

There are plenty of detective-style noir games coming in 2021, but Spine stands. From the developer EggNut and published by Raw Fury, Spine played you as a private eye raccoon named Howard Lotor. The pixel art style is fantastic and I can’t wait to try this stylish point and click adventure game.

Find out on Steam.

Model

I played Model at PAX East in 2020, and look forward to its release date. The game first appeared in 2011 at the Game Developers Conference, and its ingenious design was an instant hit. Finally, it is a complete game, based on an innovative and interesting puzzle style.

Model is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Windows PC.

Travel book

Developer Might and Delight describes Travel book as a ‘unique social role-playing experience that doesn’t hold your hand’. It takes place in a fairytale world open to exploration – “no overall goal and no real beginning or end” – where the player creates their own journey.

I’m curious to see how the multiplayer elements play out when this releases for Windows PC in 2021.

Dordogne

If there is a way to describe Dordogne, I would go stunned. The game has a fantastic watercolor style that immediately caught my eye. The narrative adventure game has the player engaging in “childhood memories,” according to the Steam page. It takes place in the present and the past, but each of these worlds is equally beautiful.

It’s coming to Windows PC in 2021. Add it to your favorites list on Steam.

Tea cup

Tea cup stars Teacup, a very shy frog. The whimsical world is filled with other animals to meet and many puzzles to solve. It has a fantastic aesthetic, featuring the healthy journey of finding herbs for making tea.

Tunche

Another beautiful hand drawn game, Tunche is a hack-and-slash roguelike through the Amazon jungle. It has a four player cooperative mode and looks like a ton of fun. “Choose one of five characters, master their skills and ultimate abilities, defeat epic bosses and uncover the secrets of the mysterious Amazon jungle,” developer LEAP Game Studios wrote on Steam. “The game centers around high-risk, high-reward fights, and has an ‘elegant’ ranking system.”

The game is coming to consoles and Windows PCs in March.
