One dead in New Years morning shooting in Kanawha County

CROSSWAYS, W.Va. –A Putnam County teenager was shot and killed in a scuffle in the parking lot of a Kanawha County convenience store in the wee hours of New Years Day.

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department, Caleb Marcum, 19, of Red House, died in the Sheetz parking lot at Cross Lanes. Filming took place around 2 a.m. on Friday, Marcum was shot in the face.

A second Putnam County man, Brent Jenkins, 23, of Scott Depot, was also shot dead and is in hospital, MPs said.

Two counts of gratuitous endangerment with a firearm have been laid against David Tylar Rogers, 23, of Charleston. According to a statement from the Sheriff’s Department, Rogers “is accused of having fired a firearm in the parking lot several times, endangering the lives of passers-by while he was engaged in an altercation with others.

No specific charges have yet been filed in connection with Marcum’s death. The Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation.
