Patriots head coach Bill Belichick confirmed something at his press conference on Friday that many people probably took for granted.
Receiver Julian Edelman won’t be returning for the team’s Week 17 game against the Jets. He has been on the injured reserve due to his knee since the start of November and was nominated to return a few weeks ago, but Belichick said the veteran would not be activated.
Belichick also said Edelman, who had 21 catches for 315 yards, had no backhand.
“I wouldn’t say that, no. I’d just say he wasn’t ready to play and will not be ready to playBelichick said, via WEEI’s Ryan Hannable.
Edelman is signed for next season, but Belichick said it was too early to say if he would return with the Patriots for a 13th season.
