Raleigh, North Carolina – A woman crashed over the barricade near the intersection of Pleasant Grove Church Road and Airport Boulevard, her car rolling down the steep embankment and coming to rest in the water below.
The accident happened early Friday morning about a mile from RDU Airport.
According to an official with the Morrisville Fire Rescue Service, the woman crossed the intersection and descended the embankment, which was still slippery and muddy from the rain.
When the officials arrived, she was trying to climb the embankment but had difficulty getting there because of the mud and her shoes.
Officials said she suffered only minor injuries and should be fine. However, she was charged with DWI, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
At around 5 a.m., the headlights of the driver’s car could still be seen along the dark embankment. In less than half an hour, the crews had retrieved the car from the stream.
