Cyndi Lauper and Billy Porter left 2020 in style.
The 67-year-old music icon took the stage in New York City last night to celebrate New Years Eve and performed a number of his songs, including “True Colors” as a duet with Porter.
The number, which launched its set, was immediately criticized on Twitter.
“Cyndi Lauper and Billy Porter looked like two 8-year-olds who put on a ‘show’ for adults with the intention of asking for a sleepover afterwards,” said a user.

“This Cyndi Lauper and Billy Porter duo was the real pandemic of 2020”, wrote another.
A third added: “Cyndi Lauper and Billy Porter sounded like me, drunk on karaoke night.”
She then performed an EDM-themed version of her 2019 song “Hope,” which set the social media site on fire.
“Cyndi Lauper’s performance was the last punishment for 2020”, Tweeted a viewer.

“Cyndi Lauper is currently putting on the worst NYE live performance in history”, said another. “Turn it into ABC right away. It’s a beautiful train wreck.”
Yet another called the bizarre performance “a drug trip, “while another viewer noted that the performance”sums up 2020 pretty well. “
Lauper is of course known as one of the most popular stars of the 80s. Outside of “True Colors” her most notable hits include “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and “Time After Time”.

The musician has won two Grammys during her career, including the coveted Best New Artist award in 1985. Her second victory came in 2014 for her work writing music for the Broadway musical “Kinky Boots” .

The musical is his connection to Porter, 51, who won a Tony and a Grammy for his performance on the series. Porter and Lauper both won Emmys for their acting.
