SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Teams at Springfield City Utilities work all morning to restore power to thousands of people in its network after a New Years ice storm.

At 11 a.m., Joel Alexander of City Utilities reported 6,000 customers without electrical service. Alexander says changing conditions with precipitation and temperatures often make restoration efforts more difficult.

Alexander says that at the height of the storm, more than 12,000 customers were without power.

“Overnight, UC’s line and shaft crews began responding to outages when the weather permitted,” Alexander said in an update Friday morning. “The majority of outages were caused by branches and trees in contact with power lines. However, there is at least one utility structure that has been damaged. Additional line and tree teams arrive to assist the UC teams.

Additional line and shaft crews have arrived to help and will make repairs as quickly as possible.

Customers are asked to call 1-888-863-9001 to report a power outage. CLICK HERE for the breakdown map.
