There are only two schools in the country that are undefeated with at least four wins out of KenPom’s top 100 teams. One of them is obviously Gonzaga. The other is … Michigan.

“[Michigan is] really, really good, “said Maryland coach Mark Turgeon after his Terrapins lost 84-73 to Michigan at home on New Years Eve.” They are really long. They are really tall. And they perform at a high standard. “

They are also alone at the top of the Big Ten rankings.

The Wolverines are 8-0 overall, 3-0 in the league after Thursday’s double-digit victory over one of the defending Big Ten champions. They have now beaten the Maryland team that beat Wisconsin. They beat the UCF team that beat Florida State. They beat the Penn State team which beat the Virginia Tech team which beat Villanova. So, no, Michigan still doesn’t have that big signing victory that resonates throughout the sport. But Juwan Howard’s team have won every game they’ve played and, again, Michigan is the only school other than Gonzaga that is unbeaten with at least four wins out of KenPom’s Top 100 teams.

(Gonzaga has five.)

The Thursday night star was the guy who’s been the star all season in Michigan – Hunter Dickinson. The 7-foot-2 center took 11 shots, made 10 and finished with 26 points and 11 rebounds against Maryland, which is located just three miles from where Dickinson attended DeMatha Catholic High School. He averages 16.6 points and 8.8 rebounds per game in 25.5 minutes per game.

“It was great fun coming back to the DMV,” Dickinson said. “It brought back a lot of memories, especially with his closeness to DeMatha. It brought back a lot of memories, a lot of good times. It was really fun playing against that Terrapin team and getting the win.”

Michigan is # 11 in CBS Sports’ Top 25 and 1 College Basketball Daily Rankings. The Wolverines’ next scheduled game is Sunday at Northwestern, 17th in the Top 25 And 1.
