ABC sounded the new year with the best numbers of any broadcaster, as Dick Clark’s rock new year’s eve with an average of 8.4 million viewers and a score of 2.4 for the demonstration during prime time – exactly matching the fast nationals of last year.
NBC’s three-hour programming block ranked second in the demo, with New Year’s Eve: escape 2020 and NBC’s New Years Eve 2021 on average 4.4 mil and a 0.9.
CBS’s lineup of reruns actually pulled in the second-largest audience on Thursday (4.5 million on average), while also achieving a demo rating of 0.3.
Fox New Year’s Toast & Roast, hosted by ubiquitous Joel McHale and Ken Jeong, averaged 2 mil and 0.6 – a 25% drop from Steve Harvey’s turn a year ago as NYE host.
Live + same day numbers shown in our notes column do not reflect the overall performance of a show, given the increased use of time-delayed playback via DVR and streaming platforms, as well as out-of-home viewing. Rather, these numbers (Nielsen’s National Fast, unless designated as final) are meant to simply illustrate trends or superlatives. Warning: the contents may be hot!
