Pelosi announces proposed set of rules for next Congress

The democratic rule package includes the revocation of speaking privileges for former members of Congress convicted of crimes related to their service or election.

It would also be a violation of the code of conduct for members, officers or employees of Congress to identify a whistleblower.

The set of rules would also prohibit members from knowingly posting manipulated images or “deepfake” videos.

The package would also create a special committee on economic disparity and equity in growth and require the committees to incorporate plans on how their work in the coming session would address the disparities. And that would require committees to post all amendments considered during the price increase online within 48 hours of their review, and increase the availability of machine-readable versions of legislative documents.

“This proposal does not touch the limits of ethics reform. It contains historic ideas for protecting whistleblowers and preventing everything from the undue influence of violators on the House floor to the spreading of deepfakes on government accounts, ”McGovern said in a statement.

“This proposal also shines a light on those struggling to advance in America today and ensures that we remain focused on the most pressing issues facing our nation. I would like to thank my colleagues, external stakeholders and all who have helped us develop these transformative ideas, ”he added.
