Company selling black PS5 faceplates challenges Sony to ‘try to sue us’

Canadian peripherals company Dbrand has announced that it will take orders for its own line of black faceplates for PlayStation 5 soon, and has rejected the suggestion that Sony could stop it.

The company, which is best known for its phone cases, allows customers to sign up to receive notifications about when its matte black PS5 faceplates will be available. He says the plates will be released sometime in 2021 and will be available in standard and digital variants.

“We will go into mass production on the PS5 front panels by the end of the year,” the company wrote last week. “However, we will not be accepting orders until we have stock at our Toronto headquarters ready to ship.”

Dbrand’s product launch follows a high-profile case in the UK that saw a company cancel plans to create custom PS5 facades after Sony allegedly threatened legal action.

CustomizeMyPlates.com was forced to change its original name from PlateStation5 and ultimately to withdraw its entire line of custom PS5 faceplates.

Asked by a Reddit user if he feared similar legal action on its front faces, Dbrand dismissed the notion, writing, “We encourage them to give it a try.” A caption on his Reddit post also reads, “sue us, Sony.”

Dbrand has said he may later expand his lineup to offer other PlayStation 5 faceplate colors, but for now he’s focusing on matte black with an organized range of mid-skins.

Last month, another peripheral company, Game Armor, launched pre-orders for its own PS5 facades, available in matte black, red, and blue with an introductory price of $ 35.

Content creator CptnAlex, who launched Game Armor in December, has explained why he doesn’t expect his company to get on the wrong side of Sony.

Sony has yet to announce a variation on the standard white design of the PlayStation 5 or even commit to releasing additional console cases in the future.
