Tennessee health workers accused of denying elderly people receiving vaccines to give doses to friends

People over the age of 75 lined up for hours in Tennessee for a chance to get their COVID-19 shot and find that staff distributing the vaccines distributed doses to their friends and family after they told hundreds of people who had waited for hours that there were no more vaccines available. . WRCB-TV reporters learned that staff at the Tennessee Riverpark vaccination center had phoned relatives and friends and told them vaccines were still available after the facility turned down potential patients. Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger said the incident was the result of a “miscalculation,” in which officials discovered they had more doses available than after refusing patients and sought to use them quickly before the vaccine thaws and deteriorates.
