Apex Legends Fight Night event kicks off January 5

Apex Legends will pack a punch in 2021 – literally.

The battle royale will receive a Pathfinder-themed event called “Fight Night” next week. The event brings a slew of new additions to kick off 2021 with a bang, including a new collection, the Gibraltar Legacy set, a boxing ring for a takeover of Pathfinder Town, and a new take on limited-time modes – and it will be launched at 10 p.m. MOT January 5.

Get in the ring

Respawn has big plans for Pathfinder. We recently saw the Forward Scout get their own episode of Stories from the Outlands and now they have their own event – with a Town Takeover.

The event will place a boxing ring at Olympus near the intersection of Docks and Power Grid, and the only way to defeat your enemies is with your bare hands. “Entering the ring will prevent any player from using their weapons and abilities,” the official blog said. “And don’t worry about interference from the outer ring – no outer projectile, grenade, or ability can penetrate the ring’s force field.”

Game Type Takeover: Airdrop Escalation

Fight Night introduces a new type of game and revamps Mountain peak manages LTMs. Airdrop Escalation will be available for the duration of the event and will support the matchmaking queue. Instead of choosing between casual modes and the new LTM, players will only have the option of lining up in Airdrop Escalation.

The limited-time ruleset will remove an increasing number of Supply Drops from the start of each match, each with a fully equipped weapon. Previous rounds will have lower level weapons, but later stages of the match may drop red Evo Shields and Heal weapons. Normal weapons will still spawn as floor loot, however.

Another experience from Respawn is the new takeover model. Instead of dividing players into two separate queues, the game will temporarily switch exclusively to the new game mode. Airdrop Escalation is not as far removed from the base gameplay as other limited-time modes (such as Flashpoint from last year), which may make him a good candidate for the experience.

New collection and Gibraltar heritage

It wouldn’t be a collectibles event without some new cosmetics, and Fight Night is bringing a full truckload of them. Exclusive visuals to the event include new outfits for Wattson, Mirage, Crypto, Revenant, Loba, Lifeline, and more, including the star of the show himself.

The new Pathfinder visual is a reference to the cinematic short Fight Night when the MRVN disguised itself with a trench coat and fedora to avoid detection. Based on the trailer, the new cosmetic could have a unique character select animation that would allow him to fight a Specter – similar to how other visuals in the Stories from the Outlands series, like Wraith’s Voidwalker and Bloodhound’s Young. Blood, come with their own animations.

Obtaining all 24 cosmetics from the collection will reward players with a special item: the Gibraltar Legacy Set. His heirloom weapon first appeared during the Season Seven quest. In Family Portrait, Gibby appears to be holding an ax-shaped object called Patu. The quest revealed that it was tailor-made by her then boyfriend, Nik and Gibraltar had kept her after all these years. Players who don’t complete the set during the event, however, can still hang the Battle Ax with the Elusive Heirloom Shards.

Loot MRVN

The end of the season seven quest saw the Legends retrieve an old battery from Lifeline’s father and players will be able to use it in-game. Interacting with the friendly bots will remove certain items depending on the level displayed on their built-in monitors. Players who shoot MRVNs can grab their arms and transplant them into another robot to get loot – but if you do that, you’re probably a bad person.
