WASATCH COUNTY, Utah – A teenager died Friday afternoon in a 3 vehicle crash on US Highway 189 near Deer Creek Reservoir.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the 17-year-old boy was driving a Honda Civic northbound near the 24 mile marker, about a mile south of Charleston, around 1:30 p.m. when his vehicle drifted onto the right side of the highway. He overcorrected, entered oncoming traffic, and swept a Subaru Crosstrek.
The Civic then turned and was struck on the driver’s side by a southbound Toyota Sienna van.
The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
The occupants of the Subaru were not injured and those of the van were taken to area hospitals for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
The highway was closed in both directions for about three hours.
UHP said the reason the driver initially pulled off the road was not known.
