CLEVELAND, Ohio – Browns chief of staff Callie Brownson will receive a call for a coaching position again this week. Brownson will succeed Chad O’Shea, passing play coordinator / wide receivers coach, against the Steelers on Sunday.
Brownson stepped in for tight ends, coach Drew Petzing against Jacksonville on Nov. 29, when Petzing’s wife Louisa gave birth to the couple’s first child.
“I was a little nervous about getting ‘Wally Pipp-ed’ to be perfectly honest,” Petzing said a few weeks later. “I’m just glad they let me go back to my own job.”
Petzing praised Brownson for her composure and adaptability and said the players didn’t miss a beat when she coached them in Jacksonville.
“She was great,” said Petzing. “There are no words to express what she means for this organization, for our staff and for me individually. She has been great working with her. Really, really impressive in terms of how she tackles her job and how well she does it. She participates in all aspects of our organization. Having someone like that to lean on when there are a lot of reasons in 2020 why you might miss a game or miss a practice and have someone like her in the building is very reassuring. She did an amazing job.
“That’s one of the reasons this whole building is going as it should,” said wide receiver Jarvis Landry, “and I know she’s excited about it. I know she’s going to be on her details and make sure we’re doing the right things there, getting the right staff in the game and having the awareness that she’s on the sidelines to be able to do our job, make sure we do ours.
O’Shea will miss Sunday’s game after testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this week.
