Hundreds of revelers desperate for a taste of New Year’s normalcy were arrested overnight for attending illegal parties in violation of restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic, the New York Sheriff said on Friday.
While Times Square was a ghost town, the evenings beat from Queens to Manhattan, including a Maspeth karaoke that hosted more than 300 maskless revelers, Sheriff Joseph Fucito said.
At 2 a.m. on New Years Day, MPs responded to the Maspeth Bar Lounge on 58th Street and saw more than 25 people slip into a locked side fire exit from the outside, Fucito said.
About 15 minutes later, deputies broke in and found more than 300 people crammed together “drinking alcohol, singing karaoke and dancing” without covering their faces, the sheriff said.

Company owner Man Phan, 37, and his wife, He Bin Wang, 37, were charged with violating a decree, violating an emergency measure and failing to protect health and safety. Phan was also charged with running an unlicensed bottle club, illegal storage of alcohol and obstructing an exit and faces a fine of $ 15,000.
Guowei Lin, 44, the shindig’s DJ, also faced charges and a $ 1,000 fine, along with Fang Zou, a 35-year-old employee, Fucito said.
In Brooklyn, MPs have received “many” 311 complaints about a large, noisy gathering without social distancing at Stars Hall in Sunset Park.
When officers arrived just before midnight, they found around 80 people dancing their 2020 blues and smoking hookah, Fucito said.
Party organizer Al Zabidi has received two appearance tickets for violating an emergency measure and a decree and faces a fine of $ 15,000.

In Manhattan, sheriff’s officers found another illegal party around 1 a.m. Friday at an event space on Prince Street, Fucito said.
On the sixth floor, MPs found 145 people “dancing, drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes” without wearing masks or social distancing, Fucito said.
The party organizers were fined $ 1,000. The promoter will have to pay $ 15,000.
