Radiohead’s Thom Yorke paid tribute to rapper and producer MF DOOM, who recently passed away at the age of 49.
News of DOOM’s death was confirmed Thursday night (December 31) by his wife Jasmine, who posted a tribute on the hip-hop legend’s Instagram account.
She revealed that DOOM (real name Daniel Dumile) passed away on October 31, 2020. His cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
Tributes have been pouring in ever since, and among those offering their condolences, Yorke, who has worked with DOOM on several occasions during his career.
“I am so sad to hear of the passing of MF Doom,” he tweeted. “He was a huge inspiration to many of us, turned things around… for me, the way he put the words was often shocking in his genius, using the stream of consciousness in a way that I didn’t had never heard before.

In 2009, Yorke remixed DOOM’s “Gazzillion Ear”, a track that was offered as a bonus on the rapper’s last solo album, “Born Like This”.
In addition to the remix, Yorke and Radiohead teammate Jonny Greenwood also appeared on DOOM and Jneiro Jarel’s 2012 track “ Retarded Fren, ” from the Butter edition of JJ DOOM’s LP, “ Key To The Kuffs ”.
DOOM once hinted that a joint album with Yorke was in the works, but the project never materialized.
Talk to 3d world magazine in 2011, he said he was doing “stuff” with the frontman of Radiohead, adding that he was “cool” and had “a lot of ideas and bad ass shit.”
“We work on duets, duet songs and shit. Just like the preliminary shit, but we’ll probably end up doing an entire album together, ”he said.
Meanwhile, Flying Lotus revealed that he and DOOM were working together on an EP before the rapper’s death.
After paying tribute to DOOM on Twitter, one fan suggested to FlyLo that fans expected more collaborations from the two, especially a longer project, which he revealed to be actually working on such. project.
“I hate to say it but we were actually working on an EP,” he wrote. “There were other songs that I didn’t even hear.” He didn’t give more details, but it looks like they failed to come to a conclusion until he died untimely.
