Pennsylvania Representative Mike Reese died on Saturday afternoon after suffering from an apparent brain aneurysm, his family said.
Reese – who was elected in 2008 to serve parts of Westmoreland and Somerset counties – was 42 years old. He is survived by his wife Angela and their three children.
“On behalf of the entire Republican House caucus, I offer our deepest condolences to the family of Representative Mike Reese,” House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff said in a statement. More than a friend to all of us, and a leader of our caucus, Mike was a devoted husband and father. His wife, three young children and extended family are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Reese was elected chair of the Republican caucus for the 2020–21 session. He announced in early December that he was in quarantine after testing positive for coronavirus. It is not known if his death was linked to the virus.
“I have known Mike since he took office in 2009 and am proud to witness his many legislative achievements, especially his tireless work on behalf of students and families in Pennsylvania. Mike was a model lawmaker who thought about his constituents first, ”Benninghoff said. “His wit, presence and guidance will be sorely missed.”
