– Retired Cary Police Captain Jerry Lynn McCormick has been charged with impaired driving on New Years Day by Cary Police.

McCormick, 56, was involved in an accident with another car at the intersection of Tryon Road and Kildaire Farm Road, officials said. No injuries were reported in the accident.

He was a police officer in North Carolina for more than 30 years and retired as captain of the Cary Police Department in 2019, according to his CV online.

When reached by phone on Saturday morning, McCormick apologized for his actions.

“I’m sorry that happened,” McCormick said Saturday morning. “It was bad judgment on my part.”

The incident had nothing to do with the town of Cary, he said, and stressed that he had been retired for over a year.

According to McCormick’s business website, he now works as a consultant and public speaker.

His website says, “As a retired police captain and security chief, I work with companies, associations, associations and universities to train and empower employees, students, customers and staff. on how to stay safe in unforeseen or emergency situations.
