GOLDEN GLOBE 2021 FORECAST:
BEST ACTOR IN A MOVING IMAGE (DRAMA)
UPDATED: Jan. 2, 2021
PRICE COMMENT:
The ‘late’ narrative is typically used when evaluating an Oscar campaign, but every now and then you start to notice veterans who have come empty-handed to other awards spaces. Anthony Hopkins (“The Father”) is one such nominee this year who despite winning an Oscar for “The Silence of the Lambs,” the 83-year-old has never walked away with a competitive Golden Globe with seven nominations. previous (he received the Cecil B. DeMille Prize in 2006). Even if Chadwick Boseman (“My Rainey’s Black Bottom”) is on track for the Oscars, Hopkins’ draw record with the HFPA may come into play when voting. You can still look for big, nominated celebrities to step into the fray, and a few prominent men might grab the attention of the HFPA this year – Ben Affleck (“The Way Back”), Tom Holland (“Cherry”), Justin Timberlake. (“Palmer”) or John David Washington (“Malcolm & Marie” or “Tenet”) will be in the mix. This “star inclusion” usually comes at the expense of someone going to the Dolby Theater, and it could leave Delroy Lindo (“Da 5 Bloods”), Riz Ahmed (“Sound of Metal”) or Steven Yeun (“ Minari ”) vulnerable (at least to the Globes). That doesn’t mean these big stars won’t deserve recognition because they will. All around, just a year stacked in the best actor race.
