Doctor Who: Dalek Revolution spoilers follow.

Doctor Who fans were heartbroken by the dual character’s outing on the festive special, but it wasn’t the only thing that made viewers cry in their Christmas pudding.

After being jailed for 10 months, The Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) reunited with Ryan Sinclair (Tosin Cole), Graham O’Brien (Bradley Walsh) and Yaz Khan (Mandip Gill) as well as old pal Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) to bring down an army of Daleks.

During a particular moment of conversation with the gang, Captain Jack mentioned one of the fandom’s favorite characters who is greatly missed – Rose Tyler.

Rose was a companion of the Ninth and Tenth Doctors – Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant – but is now stuck in an alternate universe.

Speaking of a previous battle with the Daleks which saw him get killed and Rose revive him, Jack said, “I can be killed but I come back to life pretty quickly. Part of her [the Doctor’s] fault, in part a friend of his on Earth called Rose.

“But she is now trapped in a parallel universe.”

Fans took to Twitter to talk about Jack mentioning the character, and it was quite emotional:

Following Ryan and Graham’s outings, it was announced that actor and comedian John Bishop would join the cast as new mate Dan.

Bishop called to join Doctor Who “an absolute dream”.

He said: “If I could tell my young self that one day I would be asked to board the TARDIS, I would never have believed it. It is an absolute dream come true to join Doctor Who and I couldn’t wish for better company than Jodie and Mandip. “

Doctor Who broadcast on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US. Revolution of the Daleks is currently available to catch up on BBC iPlayer.
