Golden Nuggets: 49ers could jump as high as No.9 in NFL draft order today

The 49ers’ regular season has been a disappointment. Super Bowl expectations have been ruined five quarters into the season. Fast forward 17 weeks and San Francisco won’t stand a chance of making the playoffs. This offseason should be full of drama and rumors, however.

Shanahan’s comments on Jimmy G’s future unsettle Spikes

“As a player, how do you feel?” Spikes said with concern on the last “Behind the Mask.”

Spikes likens it to a “big punch in the gut.”

Still, Spikes knows there has to be a plan in motion if Jimmy G doesn’t return to the 49ers.

On the monetary side, they will have around $ 26 million more if they don’t bring Garoppolo back. And while Spikes points out that that sounds like a lot, compared to the 2021 salaries of other quarterbacks in the league, it doesn’t even make it into the top 10.

One to watch when the Seahawks face the 49ers on Sunday – plus Bob Condotta’s prediction

The X factor

Score early

As all fans know, the Seahawks have never been known for their quick starts under Carroll. The 2013 team, which scored 417 and nearly 26 points per game en route to the Super Bowl title, scored just 69 points in the first quarter (4.4 per game), No. 21 in the NFL. This year’s team was breaking that trend – in the first seven games of the season, Seattle had 56 points in the first quarter, eight per game, to place first in the NFL. In eight games since, Seattle has scored 27 points in the first quarter – with just one first quarter touchdown in the last five games – and is down to 5.5 for the season, 12th in the NFL. Scoring more at the end of the game is obviously all that matters. But in two playoff losses in the past two years, the Seahawks struggled early on before delaying the attack. And they may want to reverse that trend before entering the playoffs.

Draft 2021 ranking scenarios for the 49ers in the season finale

With a loss

This is the only significant or likely way for the 49ers to advance in the draft. At 6-9, they’re currently 15th in draft order.

The main tiebreaker between teams with the same record is the strength of the schedule. The 49ers (0.544 calendar strength) lose most of the tiebreakers. There are potentially six, but more likely five places San Francisco can earn.

  • If the Carolina Panthers (5-10, .529 SOS) beat the New Orleans Saints (11-4), there is a out of chance that the 49ers could earn a spot. The Panthers’ schedule strength would have to increase dramatically and the 49ers would have to drop out. A loss of the Saints would reduce the strength of the schedules of both teams. This is a very unlikely scenario, but it would mean +1 place.
  • If the Denver Broncos (5-10, .567 SOS) defeated Oakland Raiders (7-8, .542 SOS), the 49ers would have +1 place.
  • If the Dallas Cowboys (6-9, .465 SOS) defeated the New York Giants (5-10) and Washington (6-9, .465 SOS) beat the Philadelphia Eagles (4-10-1), the 49ers would win +1 place. Washington is currently in a playoff berth, but if they lose and Dallas win, they would fall back from that playoff spot and into a high pick in the draft, making it a wash. Nothing changes if Dallas loses.
  • If the Chargers Los Angeles (6-9, .490 SOS) defeated the Kansas City Chiefs (14-1), who rest many of their starters, including Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill, and whom the Chargers took in overtime earlier this season, the 49ers would win +1 place.
  • If the Minnesota Vikings (6-9, .508 SOS) defeated the Detroit Lions (5-10, .504 SOS), the 49ers win +1 place.
  • If the New England Patriots (6-9, .533 SOS) defeated the New York Jets (2-13) or if the strength of the Patriots’ schedule increases and the 49ers (0.544) decrease enough, a loss to the Patriots could also mean +1 place.

That’s all. Currently, in 15th place, there are about five likely scenarios for the 49ers to jump in draft order, possibly in 10th place. The ninth is technically possible but highly improbable.

Williams believes injuries alone kept 49ers out of playoffs

“It sucks to lose games,” Williams said. “It’s a shame we have a Super Bowl roster and it’s a shame we haven’t been able to put these guys on the field as many times as needed to have a successful season.

“To be honest it was a roller coaster ride but I was so lucky to be back on the pitch,” said Williams. “I had the chance to put on my crampons, buckle up my helmet and enjoy the camaraderie in the locker room.

“It was bittersweet. It’s a shame we didn’t reach our potential, but it was really nice to come back with the guys, to feel the adrenaline again of playing football and just being the person I believe God is. ‘designed.
