The Detroit Lions are trying to hire Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider in the same position, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. Schneider has been with the Seahawks for 11 seasons and built the Super Bowl XLVIII roster.

The Wisconsin native is known for his mid-to-late draft finds like Russell Wilson, Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Tyler Lockett and KJ Wright. Wilson’s presence kept the franchise afloat while deconstructing the Super Bowl roster and rebuilding it.

Schneider is known for his trading from the first round and for not being afraid to make big trades. His recent selections in the first round have not been so popular in the Scout community. Seattle acquired tight end Jimmy Graham from the Saints in exchange for center Max Unger and a 2015 first-round pick. Last year the team acquired linebacker / linebacker Jamal Adams and a fourth-round pick. of the Jets in exchange for safety Bradley McDougald, first and third round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and first round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Prior to his time in Seattle, Schneider held leadership positions in Washington, Green Bay, and Kansas City, including helping to win the Packers in Super Bowl XXXI.

According to Jason La Canfora, a CBS Sports NFL insider, the Lions also covet the Steelers’ Kevin Colbert.

NFL.com has also linked Steelers VP of Football Administration Omar Khan, Colts Assistant GM Ed Dodds, Saints VP / Assistant GM of Professional Staff Terry Fontenot, VP of Seahawks Football Operations Scott Fitterer, Rams College Scouting Director Brad Holmes, Vikings Assistant General Manager George Paton, Will McClay, Cowboys Vice President of Player Personnel, and Eliot Wolf, Front Office Consultant Patriots, at the vacancy.

The Atlanta Falcons, the Carolina Panthers, the Houston Texans, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Washington football team also have vacant GM positions.
