Alexander Wang’s sexual assault allegations in the New York Times

Days after a male model publicly accused Alexander Wang of groping him, sparking a series of sexual assault allegations against the celebrity favorite designer, Wang finally broke his silence on the matter. Wang decried the charges – which include drugs and rape – as “baseless and grotesquely false” in a New York statement. Times.

“I never engaged in the excruciating behavior described and I never behaved in the manner alleged,” Wang wrote. “I intend to get to the bottom of this and hold anyone responsible for the origin of these allegations and their vicious dissemination online.”

The allegations began to mount late last week after model Owen Mooney accused Wang of grabbing her private parts at a crowded New York nightclub in 2017. In a video shared to TikTok, Mooney said, “I was on my own at one point and this guy then for me, obviously took advantage of the fact that no one could move and I just started touching myself, like, completely on my leg, in my crotch. Although Mooney did not initially reveal Wang’s identity in the first video and only referred to him as a “really famous fashion designer,” he says in a follow-up video that he decided to identify Wang after several commentators correctly guessed the creator. “It turns out that Alexander Wang is a huge sexual predator,” Mooney says.

After the ShitModelMgmt Instagram account reposted Mooney’s videos, new allegations began to emerge, which this account, along with Diet Prada, compiled and shared. The stories paint a disturbing picture of Wang, who is known for his exhilarating evenings: some claim he drugged them with water containing MDMA or forced them to drink beyond their limits; one person claims that Wang raped their friend. “The designer has built his brand around a tough party, everything is ethical, creating campaigns inspired by the ‘walk of shame’ and even involving R. Kelly in his SS17 campaign,” we read in the post from Diet Prada. “But now the stories behind the velvet rope are spreading.”

In his statement, Wang targets the aforementioned accounts, calling them “infamous for posting libelous material from undisclosed and / or anonymous sources without any evidence or fact-checking.” the Times notes that he has not independently corroborated the recent allegations against Wang and that Mooney has not responded to numerous requests for comment.

As Diet Prada noted, this is not the first time Wang has been accused of predatory behavior. In late 2019, Azealia Banks – who has collaborated with Wang in the past – shared anonymous sexual assault allegations against the creator, accusing him of targeting trans women. Two years before that, the Times adds, a man named Nick Ward accused Wang of grabbing her private parts at a concert in Brooklyn.
