Gather around the fire, the possemates, the votes for the annual Steam Awards have arrived and you have very much decided that Rockstar’s cowboy adventure Red Dead Redemption 2 is the game of the year in 2020. Come cast a glance to find out if something you voted for during the rewards ended up lassoing a victory.

RDR2 took the top spot for Game of the Year, which I can’t personally argue with. I might have even voted for it, but I’ve slept since. I have certainly played a lot of the online portion of the game in 2020. Despite having a tough launch on multiple storefronts when it hit PC in late 2019, it looks like everyone else must have done so too. .

He also picked up the victory for “an exceptional game rich in stories”, which I cannot speak about because I was completely absorbed in RDO and never touched the solo part. A crime, I know. Here’s Matthew Castle in this video review here to tell you about that part instead.

Unsurprisingly, Half-Life: Alyx got the votes for “VR Game of the Year”. I haven’t played it myself, but it does look like it would have been a problem for Valve’s own game not to bring this one home, right? Graham dubbed it “the Half-Life game you’ve been waiting for” in his Half-Life: Alyx review, so it certainly looks well deserved.

As for other rewards, Fall Guys is “better with friends” while The Sims 4 wins “sit back and relax” – many EA games arrived on Steam only last year, remember. Ori And The Will Of The Wisps took top marks for visual style and Doom Eternal takes home the soundtrack award. You can spot the winners in the remaining categories on Steam.

By the way, the Steam Winter Sale is about to end as well. You have until 10 a.m. PST / 6 p.m. GMT tomorrow, January 5 to sneak past your latest purchases. If you need a little help deciding what to buy, here’s what you should buy from the Steam Sale.
