Lance O’Brien, Tanya Roberts’ longtime partner, theorized on what might have led her publicist to tell reporters the actress died while being treated at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles for an unknown illness .

Roberts, who is best known for her role on “That 70’s Show”, has not died but is still hospitalized.

He said he was finally allowed to see her a few days after being hospitalized. He said he thought she was “coming back”, but nurses told him she was close to death.

“I finally got to the elevator because no one [wants] to help you out of there – you are in a huge hospital with no employees – and I go down the elevator, I didn’t know where I was and a security guard took me to find [Roberts’ publicist] Michael [Pingel]. “

O’Brien recalled Pingel asking him what happened during the visit, and he told her he “just said goodbye to Tanya.”

However, on Monday it was revealed that Roberts was still alive in the hospital.

“Maybe it’s just bad communication,” O’Brien told Fox News of the snafu report.

“The next thing I know, I come home and on my cell phone there is a [notification] that Tanya Roberts has passed away, “O’Brien recalled, later adding,” This is the honest truth to God, exactly what happened. “

After Sunday’s devastating evening, O’Brien agreed to speak with Inside Edition about the ordeal to voice his grievances with Cedars, but midway through the interview he received a call from the hospital.

“They want to talk to me about Tonya Roberts… I was a little pissed off, I said, ‘Well she’s dead. What are you talking about? She’s dead,'” he recalls. “[They said,] ‘No, she’s not dead, she’s right here.’ “

O’Brien admits he doesn’t remember much of the moment, but Inside Edition posted the video interview, and his emotions are visible.

“I was, like, out of my mind,” he says.

On Monday, the reporter told The Hollywood Reporter that he “had obtained confirmation [of her death], but it was from a very distraught person [O’Brien]. “

According to the Associated Press, O’Brien told Pingel that Roberts “seemed to be getting away from him.”

On December 30, Roberts had caught a bug she thought was coronavirus, so she made an appointment to get tested, but at 4 a.m. the next day, O’Brien said he woke up and found her on the floor and unable to get up.

Paramedics arrived and treated her with oxygen. They take him to the hospital.

“When they get to Cedars-Sinai, it’s the last I hear from her,” he says. “They tell me she’s getting oxygen and I can’t talk to her and I can’t come and visit her because no one is allowed in and they don’t know if she has COVID or not.”

(He said she tested negative about 48 hours later.)

“They put her in intensive care, but not in ‘intensive care’,” O’Brien said. He compared the room to a cafeteria and said it was “terrible”.

O’Brien said it was difficult to get updates on his condition.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the city’s hospitals have been inundated with COVID-19 cases. The report says EMS workers have been advised to reduce their oxygen consumption and avoid transporting patients who have virtually no chance of recovery.

Roberts was “in perfect health,” according to O’Brien. He said she took a “four or five hour hike in Hollywood Hills” shortly before her hospitalization.

Pingel initially told The Hollywood Reporter that Roberts had been hospitalized since Dec. 24 after collapsing while walking her dogs, although O’Brien said “there was nothing wrong with her” before her incident on New Years Eve, other than “some stomach trouble.”
