Houston Methodist Announces $ 500 Bounties for Healthcare Workers Who Receive COVID Vaccine

Houston Methodist is offering $ 500 bonuses in March to healthcare workers who get vaccinated against COVID-19, according to a letter from President and CEO Dr Marc Boom.

Boom noted that the country is in the midst of a new wave of infections and will likely face another before vaccinations start to suppress the virus. The next wave “will probably be even more trying for our organization because we have been through this stress and this high level of focus for many, many months,” he said.

The bonuses, he said, are meant to give workers something to look forward to over the next two months. Eligibility will require workers to obtain a COVID vaccination, which Boom says fulfills “our obligation as healthcare workers to lead the community.”

Vaccination is not mandatory for employees but will be in the future, he said. He said the Houston Methodists recognize “the vital importance of immunizing all of us to protect our patients, our community, ourselves, and our family and friends.”

He said further discussions are underway about a small number of employees who cannot safely get the vaccine.

Meanwhile, Boom said the hospital is working to vaccinate its most vulnerable patients. Infusion sites have also been set up to provide antibody therapy.
