House Speaker Nancy Pelosi excoriated President Donald Trump and House Republicans following the murderous siege of the U.S. Capitol on January 6.
In a “60-minute” interview broadcast on Sunday, the Speaker of the House spoke of her experience as pro-Trump rioters broke into the Capitol building and ransacked her office.
Pelosi said she believes the president should be held accountable by the impeachment for inciting violence.
“Unfortunately, the person running the executive branch is a deranged, deranged and dangerous President of the United States, and [there are] only a few days before we can be protected from him, “Pelosi said in the interview.” But he did something so bad that there should be a lawsuit against him.
She described the January 6 incident as “a terrible and terrible violation of the Capitol, of the first branch of government – the legislative branch – by the President of the United States.” Pro-Trump protesters broke into the Capitol as lawmakers certified the 2020 election results, forcing the chamber to temporarily halt the count and take shelter.

The congressional session resumed later that night – chaired by Pence – and lasted until 4 a.m., as a number of GOP lawmakers continued to oppose certification of the results elections in their respective states, although none of the objections were accepted.
“Shame on them, and shame on the two-thirds of the Republican caucus in the House who support it – so these people are facilitators of the president’s behavior,” Pelosi said. “I remember when the Republicans in the Senate went to Richard Nixon and said it was over, and that’s what’s got to happen now.”
Some Republicans, however, including Senator Kelly Loeffler of Georgia, reversed their decision to oppose.
House Democrats seek to continue impeachment proceedings against the president in light of the Capitol seat, and urge Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment, which would allow him and a majority cabinet to Trump, to depose the president.
Pelosi wrote in a letter obtained by CNN this impeachment process could be launched as early as this week if Pence does not respond to calls to invoke the 25th Amendment.
