Bears to retain Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy in 2021, Chuck Pagano to retire

According to the Chicago Tribune’s Dan Wiederer, the Bears will retain head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace for the 2021 season.

It’s a question Bears fans have debated all season, but we apparently have our answer.

What might be the biggest surprise, however, is the status of defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Pagano has decided to retire.

It’s unclear if the Bears will hold him back for next season. Nagy brought in Pagano to serve as defensive coordinator in 2019 after Vic Fangio left to become the head coach of the Broncos.

Prior to Pagano’s hiring in 2018, the Bears finished first in defensive points awarded. They’ve started to nosy since then, falling fourth in 2019 and 14th in 2020.

Pagano will cease to function after a 26-year coaching career, including nine seasons in the NFL.

While this is likely the end of the line in Chicago for many notable players, Nagy and Pace are entering what will undoubtedly be the most important offseason of their tenures. Many questions remain unanswered at Halas Hall.
