Rep. Andy Biggs, head of the House Freedom Caucus, told Fox News he called on Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., To step down from her leadership post after publicly announcing that she would vote to impeach the president Trump.
Biggs’ comment appears to reveal the first cracks within the Republican Party. The dividing line appears to be those who still view Trump as the party leader and those who want to move on as quickly as possible after the riots on Capitol Hill last week.
Cheney, chair of the House GOP conference, said she plans to support Democrats’ efforts to impeach Trump. She issued a statement that “the January 6 insurgency has caused injury, death and destruction in the most sacred space of our Republic”.

She blamed Trump for instigating anger. She said he “kindled the flame for this attack. All that followed was his doing.”

Biggs told “Fox News @ Night” that Cheney was not representing the conference with the remarks and that she should step down.
“I don’t think she should be chairing the Republican Conference anymore,” he told host Shannon Bream. “The reality is, she doesn’t represent the conference; she doesn’t represent Republican ideals.”
He said he was not alone and believed others would come to express their disapproval of Cheney as well. He said if she was a grassroots member her comments would likely be ignored, but she is the No. 3 GOP leader in the House.
Cheney’s office did not immediately respond to an email from Fox News after normal business hours. Five Republicans in the House have said they will vote for impeachment.
Trump is set to become the only president in history to be impeached twice. The House on Tuesday night approved a resolution urging Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to the Constitution to impeach Trump through a Cabinet vote, although Pence has previously said he will not.

Cheney said in a previous statement: “There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution.”
Biggs said he voted against the resolution urging Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment. He said in a statement that “the individuals who committed the crimes on the US Capitol last week are solely responsible for their violent actions.
“And yet Democrats want to blame President Trump for the violence that took place on Capitol Hill – a continuation of a years-long effort to undermine and topple the 45th President of the United States. Their partisan and malicious actions are shameful, serving only to further tear our nation apart and shatter our Constitution, ”he said.
