The NFC playoffs will give us the longest-running NFL quarterback game this weekend. In the AFC, it’s a different story.
The starting four quarterbacks whose teams advanced to the AFC playoff divisional round are 25 years of age or younger. This marks the first time that all four of the divisional playoff starting quarterbacks in a single conference have been 25 or younger.
On Saturday, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who just turned 24, faces Bills quarterback Josh Allen, 24 and 9 months old. 25-year-old Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes faces 25-year-old Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield on Sunday.
Mayfield, Allen and Jackson were all first-round picks in the 2018 NFL Draft, and it’s also the first time that three quarters of the same first round have made the playoffs in the same conference.
Jackson vs. Allen will only be the fourth divisional game between quarterbacks 24 or under in the Super Bowl era. The three previous cases were Dan Marino against Bernie Kosar after the 1985 season, Daunte Culpepper against Aaron Brooks after the 2000 season and Mahomes against Deshaun Watson last year.
