Moving day approaches at Trump’s White House

Stacks of empty boxes were delivered to the White House on Wednesday as the clock continues to tick for the Trump administration.

Pallets of cardboard boxes have been delivered to Eisenhower’s executive office building as the Biden administration is expected to take office in a week on January 20. Most of the offices in the building are for White House staff.

The Biden administration is planning a deep cleanup of the White House itself.

Government contracts and purchase orders reviewed by NBC News show the cost of the additional cleanup to be nearly half a million dollars. The top-to-bottom clean-up, which CNN first reported, is beyond what typically happens with the well-choreographed residence change conducted by White House ushers, butlers and housekeepers, and it follows multiple outbreaks of coronavirus on White House grounds.

The State Department announced Wednesday that Biden will be staying at Blair House the day before the inauguration, which President Donald Trump has said he will not attend.

“As usual, the White House offered to use the Blair House for Jan. 19, and it was accepted,” a State Department spokesperson said.

Trump is expected to move to his resort town of Mar-a-Lago, Florida after he leaves.
