ASUS unveils 3 new Chromebooks at CES 2021 with Intel Evo and AMD on board

Just when you thought CES 2021 wasn’t delivering too much on the Chromebook front, ASUS shows up and blows the doors down with not one, not two, but three new Chromebooks for the coming year. Two of them use Intel’s latest 11th generation Tiger Lake processors and the other is a first from ASUS with an AMD Ryzen processor inside. All three are slated for release by the second quarter of 2021 and all three are breathtaking to watch, continuing ASUS ‘trend of attractive and interesting Chromebooks for the year ahead. Let’s get into what has been announced.

ASUS Chromebook CX9

The first is the ASUS Chromebook CX9, a high-end Chromebook that is the Chrome OS variant of the company’s new ExpertBook B9 that runs Windows. This device is by far ASUS ‘most premium Chromebook yet and comes equipped with all the bells and whistles you would expect from the most high-end hardware. With the ASUS-branded NanoEdge display, an ultralight 2.2 lb chassis, premium materials, and an extremely slim 16mm profile, this device is absolutely stunning both open and closed.

ASUS Chromebook Flip C536

This next device is the spiritual successor to the Flip C434 and C436. Although it is known in some regions as the Flip CX5, ASUS uses the model name Flip C536 in most regions. Again, this striking Chromebook looks amazing and changes ASUS ‘previous formula by going for a 15.6-inch design for the convertible Chromebook. This is ASUS ‘first foray into a convertible of this size, so it will be interesting to see it in person. While the CX9 appears to be marketed to creatives and professionals, this one is aimed at a younger audience with “Stadia and GeForce NOW Compatibility” listed as a feature.

ASUS says it’s designed to appeal to those who like a minimalist look, and it’s meant for personal or business use. The interior uses an “obsidian velvet” texture and the exterior parts are treated with a ceramic-like finish, giving this Chromebook a simple and unique aesthetic that, frankly, looks pretty stellar.

ASUS Chromebook Flip CM5

Finally, ASUS also unveiled a Chromebook which was not part of their video “on stage”, but which is nevertheless important. This is what appears to be a Chromebook similar to ASUS ‘Chromebook Flip C536, the CM5 trades in the 11th Gen Tiger Lake processor options for a few AMD Ryzen chips and retains the same’ obsidian velvet ‘palm rests, 57 Wh battery, screen size and flip nomenclature while swapping out the white exterior for a mineral gray finish on the outside to complete the dark look

Additionally, in a move we’ve never seen in a Chromebook before, this device has orange highlighted keys on the sides of the device and orange outlines around the ASDW keys which promotes a bit more of a gaming aesthetic. While it’s no better or worse than any other Chromebook for taking advantage of cloud gaming, this is a striking look that might appeal to many. many buyers.

Availability of new Chromebooks varies with the arrival of ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5 / C536 in Q1 and ASUS Chromebook CX9 and Chromebook Flip CM5 arriving at some point in Q2. Compared to last year’s single version of Chromebook, it looks like ASUS is ready to use Chrome OS and we’re excited to get our hands on these devices in the coming weeks.
