CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland Cavaliers were one of four teams involved in a successful NBA trade on Wednesday afternoon that sent All-Star goalie James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets.
According to sources who spoke to cleveland.com on condition of anonymity because the agreed-upon trade has yet to be finalized, the Cavs will receive 22-year-old center Jarrett Allen and Brooklyn swingman Taurean Prince in exchange for Dante Exum, Milwaukee first-round pick in 2022 and second-round pick in 2024.
Exum and the first round will go to Houston while the Nets will receive the second round.
Allen is the main piece of the Cavs, giving them a young shot blocking center that can grow with their young core. A restricted free agent this offseason, the Cavs will inherit the rights to Allen’s Bird and are optimistic about their chances of signing him to a long-term contract.
In 12 games with Brooklyn this season, Allen is averaging 11.2 points on 67.7% shots from the field to go with 10.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.6 blocks.
Prince gives the under-equipped Cavs a healthy and versatile wing while Dylan Windler continues to recover from a fractured left hand.
In order to make the deal work, the Cavs will forgo Thon Maker and Yogi Ferrell, sources say.
