Elizabeth Smart was not initially interested in appearing in Fox’s “The Masked Dancer”. But after her grandmother passed away, Smart said she had a revelation.

“She’s definitely lived life to the fullest,” Smart said. “As I sat at his funeral, thinking about life and death, I just thought it was okay to have fun. It’s okay to do something happy. Everything I do doesn’t have to be 100% serious all the time. I’m more than a one-sided person, so why not. “

Smart was revealed to be the person in the moth costume on Wednesday’s edition of “The Masked Dancer.” Smart said she also believes that after the dark events of 2020, she wants to do something light and fun.

“It was probably the most terrifying thing I have ever done on purpose,” Smart said. “But it was a lot of fun. I mean, how many times does a person get to say that they have a whole team of people working with them every day like five people working there to help you be the best you can be. “

Smart was unmasked after dancing to Michael Bublé’s version of “Sway”. She said she kept her participation in “The Masked Dancer” a secret from everyone except her husband and her manager.

“Not that I’ve rejected these types of shows before, but I think it’s given me new and greater appreciation for them,” she says. “There are so many really talented, kind, good people who work on these shows that I really think they really want to make people smile. It was a really enjoyable experience for me, which really helped me to better appreciate everyone involved in the whole process.

Smart, who was kidnapped and sexually assaulted as a teenager, has become an advocate for missing persons and assault victims.

Smart told Variety that she expected some viewers to be surprised by her participation on the show. “I don’t think most people, even those who know me well. I would never guess I would do something like that, ”she said. “Life should also be happy, not just serious all the time. I also want to have a happy life, just as much as I want to have a meaningful life related to positive change, education and prevention. Personally, I want to have a happy life and I’m fine if others see this side of me.

Among the panelists, Brian Austin Green got Smart, Ken Jeong named Karlie Kloss, Paula Abdul guessed Kathy Griffin and Ashley Tisdale thought it was Jewel. Guest panelist Cheryl Hines chose Megyn Kelly.

Smart had previously danced to Brooks & Dunn’s “Boot Scootin Boogie,” and in its first episode, the panelists guessed Kelly, Monica Lewinsky and Marla Maples.

“The Masked Dancer” includes the “Word Up” feature, in which each candidate says a word about their identity. Smart’s first “Word Up” was “Inspirational” and the second “Word Up” was “Best Seller”.

This season’s costumes include Zebra, Tulip, Sloth, Exotic Bird, Cotton Candy, Cricket, Disco Ball, Moth, Ice Cube, and Hammerhead. Bill Nye, the Science Guy, as Ice Cube, and Ice-T as a disco ball, were previously unmasked.

The show boasts a cast of 10 celebrities who have “amassed over 38 million albums sold worldwide, 20 Emmy wins, 20 Grammy nominations, 10 global dance titles, five best-selling author titles. from the New York Times, four Olympic gold medals and three Broadway appearances. “

Word Up: “Champion”
The panel assumes: Floyd Mayweather, Mario Lopez, Tito Ortiz, Tony Robbins
Voice off: “It was amazing to be on this big stage again. It really gave me that little taste of adrenaline that I’ve been missing since my golden promotion at ZEO. Childhood was harsh, surrounded by poverty and criminality. But also, I’ve always had love, and I could never have gotten to where I am today without the support of good mentors and friends. That’s why I have to give back and be a hero to all the little zebras who need someone to believe in them. Sometimes life is crazy but love will always help you fight. My first dance was a fun salsa but tonight I’m slowing it down with a sexy duet. You wouldn’t know how hard it is to bring the sexy like a zebra, but just like life if I can channel love I will be the winner.

Previous word Up: “Come back”

Voice off: “It was a frightening fall. But do you think I’ll let a fall stop me? No way. I’m used to setbacks. I grew up in a place where life was easy and carefree. For everyone except me. It was so difficult to balance the practice with everything else in my life. I missed so many milestones and started to feel chilled by kids my age. I even missed my prom. It sometimes made me want to scream. But all these years later, I am truly grateful for these sacrifices. Because I got here and once again I’m taking a big risk. Last time it was just me and my partner. But tonight I’m with a group of the most talented dancers. So I have to stand out and show the panel why I deserve a place in the Super Six.

The panel assumes: Jonathan Groff, Keegan-Michael Key, Will Ferrell
Voice off: “The past week has been one of the scariest things I have ever done in my life. I laugh. It’s not difficult for stars like me! But I haven’t always felt this way. When I was young we moved to a new place with a new language. I did not fit in. Eventually I got a reputation for being a bad boy. The truth is, I was afraid to show people the real me. But I took a chance and I jumped. And it worked. I have learned so much about myself. So tonight I’m taking another chance and showing my soul on stage. It’s not easy for me to be vulnerable. But if I can make you laugh during the process, it will be worth it.
