Kyle Rittenhouse: Prosecutors seek to change bail deal after he said he displayed racist signs

The 17-year-old is released on $ 2 million bail after being arrested in a fatal shooting in Kenosha. Rittenhouse was reportedly in the midst of protests that had erupted in the city of Wisconsin following the police shooting on Jacob Blake, and authorities say he shot protesters.

Rittenhouse was arraigned on January 5 on two counts of homicide in the death of two men and an attempted felony homicide in the injury of another man.

Rittenhouse was seen with other people flashing “the ‘OK’ sign, which was co-opted as a ‘white power’ sign by known white supremacist groups”, and was “directly served a beer by the bartender”, indicates the motion. .

The document also states that Rittenhouse turned 18 this month and lives in Illinois. “Under Illinois law, it is a Class A offense for anyone under the age of 21 to possess or consume alcohol in a public place,” the motion states.

In Wisconsin, however, it is legal for a person under the age of 21 to possess and consume alcohol if a parent is present.

Prosecutors are also asking the court “to prohibit the accused from publicly displaying symbols and gestures associated with violent white supremacist groups and from associating with known members of these groups, in particular the Proud Boys” – as they think it might witness bullying.

Rittenhouse has pleaded not guilty to the charges on which he was brought to justice.

Rittenhouse’s attorneys argued that Rittenhouse was acting in self-defense when he opened fire.

At a hearing last month, Rittenhouse attorney Mark Richards accused prosecutors of presenting a “one-sided and stilted view” of the events of the night.

Richards presented screenshots from surveillance video which he said showed his client had acted in self-defense while being chased by an armed protester. In another image, Rittenhouse appeared to have been hit by a skateboard while on the ground.
