Almost a year after the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Kelly Dodd still does not see why masks are important.
Dodd, 45, admitted at the “Real Housewives of Orange County” reunion that her stance on protecting herself and others from COVID-19 hasn’t changed much.
“Well I hate wearing a mask,” she told Andy Cohen in a preview of the upcoming meeting. “I think everyone is on that with me. I’m going to wear them because I have to but do your pants protect you from a fart? Does it help? Do masks help? I do not know.”
Gina Kirschenheiter, Braunwyn Windham-Burke, and Shannon Beador seemed disgusted by his admission.
“Kelly, I know Braunwyn did an interview when she said you don’t take COVID seriously and there were a lot of people voicing it on social media,” Cohen insisted. “What is your reaction to this?”
Without hesitation, she replied, “I said things that I regret. I feel bad for anyone who has lost loved ones. I think it’s horrible. I think it’s horrible. Did I take it seriously? Yeah, but I was also frustrated.
Cohen then asked her how many trips she had made in the first six weeks of confinement. She didn’t say how many times she had traveled across the country to New York City, but did say she often went to do business with her husband, Rick Leventhal.
Dodd was first criticized in April for calling the coronavirus “God’s way to thin the flock.” She apologized for her remark soon after and said in a December episode of “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen” that she regretted saying so after her mother was hospitalized for COVID-19.
Then, in May, she compared the coronavirus to the flu and joked, “But how many people die on a daily basis? … Well, people are going to die! I’m sorry to tell you.
She also bragged the same month that she and her family weren’t wearing masks to dinner at a restaurant because “no one dies” in Orange County.
She made no apologies for making the false statement, but took to social media to say, “I in no way minimize the deaths caused by this virus, and I feel for their loved ones. However, Orange County has 133 deaths out of 3 million people – far fewer than most. “
The first part of the “Real Housewives of Orange County” reunion airs Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
