The Miami Dolphins have just completed a season in which the team went 10-6, but missed the playoffs for the fourth straight season. Earlier this week, reports revealed that three anonymous players had expressed fears that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa might not be the right caller to lead the franchise.
During Thursday’s installment of “Nothing Personal With David Samson,” David Samson weighed in on the Miami Herald report and revealed how he allegedly handled the situation.
“If I’m running the Dolphins, I immediately meet my GM and my coach,” Samson said. “I identify the players who said that because I call each of them. ‘Am I missing something? Do you have a problem with Tua? Because you bring it here. You don’t air your dirty laundry at the Miami Herald. You bring it to me. I am the president of the team and I want to know. Because I want to win games. ‘”
In the report, the players said they remain “optimistic” that Tagovailoa will improve in position as he becomes more familiar with the squad. However, the unnamed players aren’t convinced Tagovailoa can stack up with Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson.
Samson believes players can’t go to the media and give them information like this about a cornerstone of the franchise. It will certainly be interesting to see if Tagovailoa takes the reins next season by head coach Brian Flores.
