With news Thursday that the Pittsburgh Steelers are not renewing offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner’s contract, attention is now turning to who will be his replacement. We’ve outlined a few potential replacements, with the top of the list being current Pittsburgh quarterbacks coach Matt Canada.
There is also news that Canada is on the Miami Dolphins radar to be their next offensive coordinator.
This means Canada may have a decision to make between the Steelers and the Dolphins for its big promotion. If we connect the dots and look at it that way, what would make Canada pick the Steelers over the Dolphins?
I guess it would be tradition and loyalty above all else. The Steelers brought in Canada last season as the team’s quarterbacks coach with the hopes that they inject their creative offensive philosophies into the University of Maryland Steelers’ offense.
But beyond that, I don’t see where the Steelers’ job is more appealing. Unless Canada is eager to meet the challenge of a minimum of two years of rebuilding with more questions than answers to the quarterback. The Dolphins have had a big turnaround this season and have their young quarterback in place and are well into their rebuilding.
But I want to pass the question on to you. If Canada has a choice between the two jobs, which one do you think it will have? Let us know in the comments.
