Ming-Chi Kuo of TFI, one of Apple’s top analysts, said in a note on Friday that Apple will launch two new MacBook Pro models this year with 14- and 16-inch screens, a new design, and the return. MagSafe charging ports. .

MagSafe charging appeared in MacBook designs before Apple switched to USB-C charging in recent years. People love it because the cord is easily inserted and removed, thus avoiding the risk of damaging the laptop if someone pulls on the cord. Apple recently revived the MagSafe brand with the latest iPhone 12 models, which charge with a magnetic washer that attaches to the back of phones.

“The MacBook Pro hasn’t changed the design of the form factor in five years,” Kuo said. “We believe that the launch of two brand new MacBook Pro models in 3Q21 will grab consumer attention and drive replacement demand.”

Apple Mac’s revenue grew 28% year-over-year in October, when the company announced its fiscal 2020 fourth quarter results. There was a marked increase in demand as people work at home due to the continued spread of Covid-19. Apple also released the first computers with its new M1 chip in late 2020. But, computers look the same as previous models and the MacBook Pro is long overdue for a design change.

Kuo said Apple plans to get rid of the curved edges and adopt sharper lines, which would make the edges look a bit more like the slanted edges of the iPhone 12, iPad Air and iPad. Pro. Kuo said Apple will remove the Touch Bar, which allows users to touch shortcuts on a touchscreen at the top of their keyboard.

“Benefiting from the demand for new model replacements, we expect total MacBook shipments to grow significantly 25-30% year-on-year to 20 million units in 2021,” Kuo said in the note.
